Windows audio not running

After 2 weeks updating to windows 8.1, I got no sound from my laptop. I reinstalled the sound device. It still says one of the windows audio and windows audio endpoint builder not running. I try to start the windows audio service but I got an error msg for 0x800706cc the endpoint is duplicate. The windows endpoint builder is set for auto.

The problem is how to start windows audio service. Is that the reason to cause no sound? Please help.

Remove driver from device manager and use driver from laptop vendor (not from the optional update.) Make sure that driver is installed in device manager (no yellow mark or unknown device).

If this does not help, contact vendor's support/forum. You may not be alone who have this problem.

If nothing helps, backup data and restore from realiable backup

Also, is AVG installed?

If so, other users have reported a similar issue recently and you could look at restoring recent files that AVG may have quarantined such as discussed in the following link:

Just had this on my Acer Aspire V3-771G laptop running Windows 8.1 with AVG
AntiVirus FreeEdition 2015.

Tue 10 March 2015 auto Windows update trashed my audio and caused general
mayhem all round including the Settings charm not working,
no YouTube playback in IE 11, Control Panel took minutes to display then froze,
Visual Studio 2013 freeze ten seconds after start making it unusable,
Adobe Premier Pro no video playback. Virtually all apps/programs I use broken.
First auto update to clobber my  machine in 2 years - machine still usage for web browsing and YouTube viewing using Chrome.

Tried:

1) Looking at AVG Virus Vault - FAIL, no fails to restore
2) Revert to restore point before update - FAIL, restore worked but audio not fixed
3) sfc /scannow - FAIL, audio not fixed
4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth/ - FAIL, failed to restore image
5) Full machine virus scan - FAIL, no virus/malware found

6) Windows 8.1 Refresh (first time I've ever done this..scary, made backups before starting onto an external hard disk) - SUCCESS, audio fixed.
Yipee. Warning triangle on mic icon gone. Machine working again. Settings charm
works. YouTube Videos play in IE 11 with sound. All files on c:\ look intact
apart from c:\temp which has been wiped.
No prompts for DVD media etc. (which I don't have) during refresh.
Bonus of refresh is laptop running faster.
Re-installing Visual Studio 2013 now as I type from c:\

NOTE: I used Refresh (keeps c:\) NOT remove (wipes c:\)
