Windows aren't opening in the position I need them to...

I think there might've been an update or something... and now things are different.  I use the Windows magnifier on Win 8.1, and with my 23" monitor, there isn't that much room on the screen to begin with... and with the magnifier there's even less room.

Things were set up so when I open a text file, it would appear on the left side of the screen, with the top up against the taskbar, (which I keep at the top of the screen), and the bottom of the file window right up against the magnifier window, (which is almost always docked at the bottom of the screen, and is shaped like a long thin rectangle that leaves room for only one or two lines of magnified text.

Now, the window appears on the screen too low, with the bottom hidden under the magnifier.  And the top of the window isn't touching the taskbar.  There's a pretty big space between the top of the window and the taskbar.

Other types of window now do the same thing, hiding the area where I need to click OK.  I'm constantly dragging these windows to where I need them to be.

Is there a way to tell the Windows 8.1 where I want a window to appear when I open it?  Any help with this will be totally appreciated.

Hi,

If you set the focus on the window that's hiding behind the screen edge, press ALT+SPACE, then move the window to the desired location, and close it, wouldn't that make Windows remember the last window position?

Also, if you're using a multdisplay configuration, have you checked that monitors are correctly aligned programmatically?

You can right-click the Desktop, choose Display settings and then check the position of your displays on the Customize your display are correctly al

OK, the windows do not reappear where I move them to.  And ALT+SPACE does not work!

I forgot to tell you that I modified the taskbar and changed the size of the magnifier.  The taskbar is transparent.  I had it on HIDE unless I pointed to the top of the screen with the mouse.  When the taskbar dropped down, there were desktop icons under it that clashed with the icons on the taskbar.  My eyesight sucks so I locked the taskbar so it always would be there... and made it very small to save space.  Now it has its own space on the top of the screen.  Nothing is under it to confuse my yucky eyes.  But now when I open windows, they come up in the wrong place.

Don't you think I should be able to change the size of things and the windows would adjust?

Oh, I meant to say, you could check that two displays (if you are using a multimonitor configuration), displayed in the Customize your display section are aligned correctly. Like top right corner of Display 1 is horizontally aligned to the top left corner of Display 2.
