Windows apps with same target doesn't appear in tiles menu

We distribute four shortcuts via GPO in %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. They all start the same program, but from a different folder. The problem is that, since Windows 8 tiles, if you look in Start menu, all applications, you only see one shortcut and not four. If I copy the .exe three times and each shortcut so that each shortcut uses a different .exe I see four shortcuts. What should I do to get four shortcuts, but with the same folder/file?

ps.: this issue is in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10

Hi,

You may use GPP to deploy the shortcuts right?

When It Doesnt Work

If the target item isnt found, Group Policy will abort the shortcut creation and move on to the next setting.  You can verify this by looking in the Windows Event log:

  1. Open Windows Event Viewer
  2. Expand the Application log
  3. Search for event ID 4098 (has a severity Level of Warning)
  4. The text in the body of the event will describe what failed.

Thanks for the reply, Kate;

Unfortunately, this is not the case here, the Target here is for all the same, they are only initiated from a different directory.

For example: the 'Target' for all shortcuts is: \\server\folder1\program.exe, only shortcut 1 'Start in' is Map2, shortcut 2 'Start in' is Map3, shortcut 3 'Start in' is Map4 and for shortcut 4 'Start in' is Map5.

Untill Windows 7 (no tiles) this was not a problem, but now, from Windows 8 (with tiles), it is and I don't know why, but I would like to solve it (if possible).

I have a similar problem only, I have office 365 x86 installed and a virtual App-V Office 365 x64, but start menu shows only one set of shortcuts, even if they are in different folders and with different names. Can someone provide some useful information on this topic, instead of giving tips to troubleshoot GPO problems. This can be verified by just copying the same shortcut. It will display only one.
