Windows Zip program denies me access to zip files

When I try to zip a folder, it gets almost done, then come saying "unable to complete action, access denied"

I am the only user on my computer, so I must have administrative rights. Can anyone help me out with this?

How are you trying to zip the file?

Are you using Windows default Zip program or are you using another program like WinRAR?

Hi manyhatsink ,

When did the issue start to occur or can we open the zip file before ?
Have you tried to right click and run it as an administrator to have a check ?

There is a possibility that the present user account profile has corrupted .We can create a new administrator account and login with it to have a check .
If that is the issue ,we can refer to the following link to fix the corrupted user profile .It is also applied to Windows 8.1 machine .

Will that fix work even though I only have one user account on the machine?

check this solution (Fix Compressed (Zipped) Folder Access Denied Error Unable to Complete the Operation), I think it should work with Windows 8.1

or maybe the folder or file that you want to zip is part of windows system or you need to take ownership that folder or file in order to edit it. Check this link
