Windows Xp - Very Slow Login Time
Hey (Sorry if this is in the wrong forum) My computer is pretty new (got it in October) and it's a pretty decent computer so it shouldn't have any problems. About two weeks ago it started to take about 2 minutes to log in (from entering the password to the taskbar appearing) but before it was about 10 seconds. I don't think I've downloaded anything that would effect the login time, and have checked the start up programs, which is pretty empty. I've checked for viruses, etc. and found nothing. I have realised that when i leave my computer on the log in screen for a couple of minutes, and then log in, it logs in straight away, so therefore maybe it isn't a login problem? Any help would be great. Thanks :) 1 person needs an answerI do too

Slow login to computer can be because of many reasons: - 1. Overloaded programs that are not necesary.2. Insufficient disk space on the root drive3. Some startup programs4. Heavy Antiviruses etc.+ Try clearing Temporary files Start>Run> Type %temp%+ C:\Windows\Prefetch > Delete all files from the Prefetch folder+ Remove unnecessary programs from Add Remove programs in Control Panel+ Try disabling Antivirus if any and start computer in safe mode, without plugging onto the Internet.. check the boot timeAlso answered previously under threadhttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistafiles/thread/fa687626-4feb-4989-9fc1-b3f8b864cd15/

Hi I know how to delete temporary files which slow down my computer boot (though they can speed up the loading of certain web pages, right?) but do not want to lose my entire browser history. Under Internet Options in the toolbar,I'd like to be able to save history a long time (as I don't like to retype URL's), but at the same time want to delete saved web pages in my cache after about 20 or so--20 pages and the associated images is quite enough. It's automated settings that allow separate control of the history and the cache I want because viewing and deleting is a pain (indeed it may be hard to tell which pages in the cache go with which other pages!).This is something I'd like to see in Windows.Thanks!--C.
