There are five updates that install on this Windows XP service pack 3 computer nearly every time it is turned off. One of them is KB979909. I worked through all the recommendations that I could find for dealing with this problem. This included running a virus checker, keeping up with other updates including the malicious program detector, downloading the update separately and installing it from an installation file. When this latter was done the windows update site still offered KB979909 again as an update. Next I attempted to install it in safe mode, but an error stating that the Windows installer service could not be accessed occurred. I am not sure what to try next, are there any suggestions or references to a similar question that I have missed?1 person needs an answerI do too
