Go to Start | Run and type msconfig. Then disable all startup items and non-Microsoft services. Then reboot and see how it does. Then go towww.malwarebytes.org and download that and run it to get rid of some of the stuff that slows things down. You might also run an antivirus scan after that. steve "Yan" wrote in message news:764c625f-663c-4a87-93a7-8b5ac36b4921...How do I speed up my PC which is running XP? Thanks Steve, Cheers for the advice. I did what you requested and it worked for a while then reverted back to the same slow, slow, slow start ups and freezing up. I just need some more advice on re-installing XP. I bought a XP cd some time ago and I just want to know if I re-install it would I loose everything I have on my hard drive. I also have a maxtor 500GB external drive which I use to backup but does it means that all the software that is in my add or remove folder is backed up as well? I dont want to reinstall xp and loose everything as I dont know how to get them back.I would really appreciate your advice.Yan
