Windows XP computer will not install an HP 2800 printed on my Windows 7 Computer- says no driver
I recently purchased a third computer with windows 7 on it. I installed my HP businessjet 2800 using a preinstalled driver from windows 7. This worked fine. Then I went to my old computer with vista, which used to have the printer, and connected via the network to the printer, no problem. Same with my laptop, also running vista. Then I went to my oldest workstation, which is running XP. This station can see the printer on my window 7 computer, goes to load it, and then starts making me look for a driver. Even when I load a driver and direct it to the driver, it rejects it. Even the CD driver that came with the printer does not work. So then I went to my windows machine and tried to us the option to load extra drivers for network printing. Again, the driver I downloaded from HP which I unpacked into my downloads folder is somehow not acceptable. I know that HP has terrible support for its drivers. However if Vista can log on no problem, why can't XP? also when I install the printer as if it were local, the drivers install fine. When I try to connect to the network printer, it says no driver. Any help would be great. Naturally this is my wifes computer and she is the only one in the house who cant print.

Hi, Please uninstall and reinstall the printer driver for Windows XP on your Windows XP computer. After that, I would like to suggest you add this network printer as a local printer on Windows XP. Add the Network Printer as Local Printer ========================= 1. Click “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Printers and Other Hardware”. 2. Click “Add a printer” and “Next”. 3. Point “Local printer attached to this computer”, uncheck “Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer” and click “Next”. 4. Point “Create a new port” and select “Local Port” and click “Next”. 5. Type in the \\ComputerName\PrinterName for the “Port name”. Example: If the computer you wish to connect to is named ComputerA and the printer is called PrinterA then the path would be \\ComputerA\PrinterA. Does it work? Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT
