Hi, - Can you open other options without any issues from the Control Panel?- Were you able to use these options without any issues earlier?- Do you remember making any recent changes to your computer after which this issue has started to occur? Method 1: Boot your computer in Safe Mode and check if the same issue persists. Method 2: Run an online scan for your computer. Divya: Thanks for the response. The only other things I've found are that the Search Screen is also blank and none of the help screens load. I've tried to start the computer in safe mode; but am having some difficulty when I tap the F8 key. Can I change MSCONFIG to boot it in safe mode? Also my problems seem to have started when the new McAfee upgrade tried to install and couldn't. I've been in contact with them; but even though they tried they were of no help. Since then, I'm also unable to load any kind of security package. I guess I should mention that the computer I'm talking about is an old Toshiba laptop only running 512K of Ram. I only use it as a spare to read E-mails and surf the net. Before the McAfee install fiasco, it ran just fine for what I was using it for; and I'd like to get it up and running properly again. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Divya:I've booted the computer in Safe Mode and the issue still presists. I also have the same problem with certain Internet Explorer pages especially the Windows Live site. I get blank pages or partial blank pages when I try to go to any of the Windows Live screens. I wanted

Sorry I seemed to have sent the E-mail before I was ready. I wanted to download Microsoft Security Essential and Windows Live Essentials; but I'm unable to do so. I have downloaded and reinstalled IE 8 and javascript thinking that would help; but it hasn't.

By "blank screen" do you mean you just see the title bar "System Restore" on the top and an empty white box where the information should be?System Restore is a frequent target for malicious software attacks. If SR was working before and is now afflicted, run some scans and then resolve any remaining issues.Keep in mind that System Restore is not a time machine.Perform some scans for malicious software, then fix any remaining issues:Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/They can be uninstalled later if desired. When the scans run clean it may also be necessary to reregister some DLLs (or you can do this part first, but you still need to do the scans). Reregistering the DLLs is okay even if they do not need reregistering. You can also reregister the DLLs before the scans which may fix the issue, but the scans are still recommended.Click Start, Run and in the box enter the following commands one at a time. Click the OK button to execute each command:regsvr32 jscript regsvr32 vbscript regsvr32 /i mshtmlThe last command for mshtml will load the DLL but may also contain a harmless warning message depending on your environment.Check your System Restore calendar now.Do, or do not. There is no try.I decided to save up points for a new puppy instead of a pony!
