Windows XP PC can access Server 2003 shared folder but Windows 7 PC can't
I have a small office network with Windows XP and Windows 7 computers, along with a Windows Server 2003 computer. All setup as a Workgroup; no Domain. The Windows XP PCs can access a shared folder on the server but the Windows 7 PC can't. Whenever I try to access I get a window asking for user name and password. I do provide them but still window pops up again and asks for user name and password. Jst to be clear, the Windows 7 PC can access other computers on the network without a problem. Please advise what you think the problem with Windows 7 could be. Thanks.

If ypu are getting a prompt for the credentials while accessing the Windows server 2003 shared folder, try logging in using <serverNetBOISname>\<username> format for the username alongwith the password. Also make sure that the <username> you are provodong exists in the Local Sam database of the Windows server 2003 and that ypu have provided the right permission to it to access the shared folder. Hello Jedi_Fan, "Ranjana Jain" is right , you can defiantly access shared folder from windows server 2003 any of version to windows 7 pc. Windows 7 has new features when you access anything as well shared folder from limited user who has permit only to administrator user/group, windows 7 ask you for user name and password you can access directly from administrator account (server 2003) or make a permission on the same folder (Server 2003) for windows 7 pc's user account which you want to access the folder. Note : -Make sure you need to shared and security permission both.Rakesh Kumar
