Windows XP Not Working, No Other Options!
Hi, I have Windows XP SP2. A few days ago, I uninstalled the Windows 7 Transformation Pack, something I installed myself to integrate into system files, because it made the computer too slow for me. That's when things went wrong. When I restarted, I got an error saying explorer.exe was missing iertutil.dll. I figured the stupid transformation pack corrupted it. I couldn't see icons, the task bar, or anything. I could get to Firefox through task manager, however. I tried installing from CD, but I got an error that the version of Windows was older than the one currently installed. So then. I tried uninstalling the service pack, but got an error again. I tried getting the Internet Explorer installer, but still got an error. I cannot afford a new OS, and I can't lose my data (Programs, Drivers, Documents, etc.) Please, someone help, I am at my wits end!1 person needs an answerI do too

I am thinking about using Ubuntu. I heard it is free, and simple. I also hear that Wine could run some Windows programs. Does anyone think this is the way to go at this point? I am running out of options.

hello to cure the error code " that the version of Windows was older than the one currently installed" go to add remove programs and remove the service packs that you installed ie: if you purchased the computer with sp1 installed remove sp 2 sp3 then the software is as old as the computerIf this post helps to resolve your issue, Please click the Check Mark As Answered Check Mark On This Page as it helps others who need quick access to Answers THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK

im sorry coork, I know you are trying to help, but I had a factory installed version, and have that "hidden restore folder", which is said not to work. I told you that I can do barely anything with that DLL error. I am seriously about to explode! I tried using Ubuntu, but there is not a lot of Windows program compatibility. Would directly deleting the C:\Windows\SystemPackFiles folder cause errors? Please, someone help!

I think I have found the solution. My friend has Windows XP on his computer. I am going to slimstream and make a windows xp + sp2 cd, and find out the product key of his computer. Then, on my computer, I will copy my documents and settings and drivers for things like my printer, the cd of which I no longer have, to a flash drive. Then, I will uninstall windows and clean install windows from the cd I made and the product key. Finally, I will make new accounts and copy the files back. Do you think that will work?
