Windows XP Mode Networking
Ok, so I have windows 7 x64 Pro and have installed and configured Windows XP Mode for x32 compatibility, so far so good. What I really need to get to work though is a CISCO VPN Client v5. I have the VPN client installed and it connects through a full-screen, windowed and seamless mode launch. The problem is that the host Win7 OS does not seem to know that it is connected to VPN. I may be completely out in left field here but what I want is to be able to run the VPN client in seamless mode and have the Host Win7 OS use the VPN connection that is live in the XP VM, is this even possible. When I use the VPN client in full-screen or windowed mode and open applications in the XP VM then it uses the VPN connection properly, but again the host Win7 OS is still connected to my local network not the remote network. Any hints will be appreciated, or just tell me I am crazy for even trying, I just want to stop pulling my hair out if this is not possible. Thanks --Kevin

Well I am sure that you can get it to work. Clearly, it is question of getting your routing tables right. I am assuming that you are using NAT for your Windows XP mode networking connection. If you are, then here is a simple test that you can do, try connection your windows xp mode networking using your host physical adapter instead of NAT. If you open the setting of the windows xp mode and select networking, there from the drop down list select the physical adapter of your host machine. then connect the VPN connection and see if windows 7 host can ping an IP address on the VPN subnet. If not then you would have to consider adding a manual route on the host to the VPN network.

Dear All, I am running Win 7 Pro (x64) and installed some apps in XP Mode which need to be shared (accessed) from other work stations on the network. I have enabled sharing of the (virtual) C drive and the necessary folders. On other PCs (running XP Pro) in the network, I could see the "VirtualXP-99653" icon but it would not open when I double-clicked this icon. This is similar to the (real) C drive in Win 7: seen as shared but not accessible from XP Pro PCs on the network - same WORKGROUP name, of course. Any ideas how to make it work ? Many thanks PS: I selected the network card in VM instead of shared NAT. IE works fine, so outside access is not a problem.

Check the firewall settings on your windows xp virtual machine(s) and make sure that File and Printer sharing is allowed.
