Windows XP Home unable to reconnect my map drive after each re-start session, prompt to key in username and password always.
I have installed recently a network storage drive to my networking enviroments with desktop running windows 7, windows xp professional and windows xp home.Have this issues that even when the drive has been mapped with credential keyed in and save selecting "auto re-connect on each session" only in windows xp home. The pcs running windows xp professional and windows 7 allows me to create and save credential that allows the drive to reconnect each time the system boots up but not on xp home.Has tried multiple methods checking on firmware update, service pack upgrade, 3rd party drive map utilities and windows manual mapping but it does not help.Hope that someone could advise what could be done to resolve this issues since it seems very likely it due to windows issues.Under user account, manage stored password options, I could create credential in XP Pro but not Home. Thanks for your reply. 1 person needs an answerI do too

This is normal behavior for XP Home. The inability to save credentials is an unfortunate limitation by design of home versions of Windows. One possible solution is to run a batch file on startup to map the drive.Example:net use Z: \\servername sharename \USER:username password.--"Simon Lau" wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...I have installed recently a network storage drive to my networking enviroments with desktop running windows 7, windows xp professional and windows xp home.Have this issues that even when the drive has been mapped with credential keyed in and save selecting "auto re-connect on each session" only in windows xp home. Syntax correction: There is a back-slash missing between "servername" and "sharename". Also, the slash in front of "USER" has the wrong polarity. It should be forward instead of back-slash as in:net use Z: \\servername\sharename /USER:username password-- JW

Oops. That was careless of me. Thanks for pointing it out.--"Wunders" wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...Syntax correction: There is a back-slash missing between "servername" and "sharename".
