Windows Vista randomly disconnects
This is the third time in three weeks that I am resetting her modem and reconnecting her to the internet. She has Windows Vista, an OS I hate but can work with. I am wondering if this is a little quirk Vista has, or if something more is going on. I also suspect that she may be messing around with it, not intentionally, but she knows nothing about computers, so she may accidentally be resetting the settings I've put on Internet Explorer. Any ideas? I am going to go back in and see if she might have gone back to an older system restore point, and even if she hasn't, I'll fix everything and make a new restore point so if something gets messed I can bring it back to there. And yes, I did check to make sure everything is plugged in. It all is, it just doesn't work... But for some reason when I go to work on it the internet is down... Like yesterday when I installed AVG and stuff, afterwards it went down. Thanks for your help!

Hi, When the issue occurs, I would like to confirm the following: 1. What error message is received when you attempt to access the Internet? 2. Can the Windows Vista machine ping the default gateway? 3. Can the Windows Vista machine access the DNS server? In addition, I suggest performing the following steps on the Windows Vista machine, and then monitor to check if the issue will reoccur: 1. Disable Auto-TuningDescription of the Receive Window Auto-Tuning feature for HTTP traffic on Windows Vista-based computershttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/947239 2. Perform a clean bootHow to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vistahttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Hope it helps.

I would suggest you look at the properties of your network connection. If the box next toInternet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is checked then uncheck the box and restart your computer. This usually fixes the problem. Have a Great Day.
