Windows Vista problem - connecting to internet - cable connection
Hi guys!I don't really know if this is the right place to ask this, but I'll give it a try:I've just installed Vista Business x64(looks great!), but I'm experiencing a problem with my Internet connection. I connect to Internet trough a cable connection (I have a modem). Vista identified my network card (a realtek rtl8168/8111 family pci-e gigabit ethernet nic). The only problem is that it does not identify the network connection. It says "access: local only" and, when I try to diagnose the problem it says I have toshot downmy modem for 10 secounds and then plug it again. This does not solve my problem. Does anyone have any idea where the problem could be? I'm trying to fix this since this morning, and now I look at the clock and it's nine o'clock. Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks! I forgot to mention: the cable connection works fine on my laptop. I have XP on the laptop.

this may be a noob response to this question, but i have had the EXACT same difficulties whether it be at home in a hotel, anairport, etc, etc, etc. in any event, it started to make my life near impossible over the last week. i have no idea why it got worse, but it did. after all kind of tech support, command prompts, settings changes, blah, blah, blah, and blah.....i downloaded vista service pack 1. i dont want tojinx myself, but so far, so good. if you are like me, you are willing to try ANYTHING. hopefully it helps.

Hi Guys! I have the same problem too!!! I am running Vista Preimium and it will not connect, but I did find a way to make it connect. Each time I turn my PC on I have to go into Control Panel and then Hardware, which was Device Manager. Then right click on the ethernet card and (disable) the card. Wait for the menu to flash a few times and then (enable) the connection, again it will flash a few times and it should connect. I know it is a pain but that is the only way I can make mine work right now and I have tried several different cards and I am pretty frustrated with the whole thing. Good Luck!!

When you are using a cable modem for internet, I have never seen vista hook up to it without the cable services driver disk for the modem itself. Xp never seems to have this problem IN LAPTOPS, but has it in desktop versions as well. Call your internet provider, they will send you to a location where you can get for free the "welcome basket" with the disk in it. "http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/default.aspx/". This is MICROSOFT'S new, FREE, fully automated, anonymous support portal, which can help users resolve windows and other product issues with a few mouse clicks. BOOKMARK THIS SITE, EVERYBODY !!!
