Windows Vista Wireless Connection No Longer working: Unknown Error
I have a HP Vista Laptop that until a few days ago had connected to my network wirelessly for over a year now. For no reason what-so-ever it will no longer connect to the internet. What is more it will not connect to any wi-fi connections, even those without WEP enabled. The event log (as typed by me here) is as follows: Helper Class (RNWF MSM Helper Class) Event: Wireless Diagnostic Helper Class Event Helper Class: Native WiFi MSM Initialize Status: Success Information for connection being diagnosed Interface name: Broadcom 4322AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n Wi-Fi Adapter Interface type: Native WiFi Connection mode:Infra Security:Yes Result of diagnosis: Problem found Root Cause: Windows cannot connect to "yourrouter". Wireless association failed due to an unknown reason. Detailed root cause: 802.11 connection failed due to status code 1: unspecified failure I have tried to use the MS fixit program listed here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233/en-us The program fix-it failed to process properly it said at the end. I then did the process manually and still no change. Mind you a key element to all of this is nothing in the network has been changed. The computer had been connecting just fine till a few days ago. The network is properly setup and all other network devices are able to connect.

Hi, When did this begin to occur? Can you associate with any software\hardware change? If recently, system restore can be under consideration at the first place. Does your internet access have router involved? If so, go to the router's manufacture and ask them if there is any firmware update. Or you can reset your router to check the result. Meanwhile, what is the model of your HP pc, it is suggested to manually search http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support_task.html and install the latest and compatible wifi driver. The odd thing is other than shutting down the laptop there is no change. No updates to the laptop (I checked the update history) or the router or network. Note also I said it will not connect to anything when the problem occurs, so it is the laptop and not the router. The solution has been a serious of reboots to the laptop until for no explainable reason the network connects again. It did persist for an entire day but now seems to have stopped all together.
