We already reloaded Windows Vista as a full install in stead of just the udgrade method. The first problem we were trying to fix was an error message MyPC6 not compatable with Vista (tryed to use Roxio instructions to remove MyPC6 how ever did not get rid of the error message MyPC6 not compatable with Vista) , so when we reinstalled our orginal software package (Windows XP) we uninstalled MyPC6 before the full install of Windows Vista . So my husband has been reading thru other peoples problems and came a cross the fire wall entrys to allow Windows Update , so he checked our computer because our internet provider offered a free trial security program with our new high speed wire less internet connection ,he checked the fire wall not the problem . Then he decided to check the Registery file to see if the secutity program changed something that did not change back when the program was uninstalled . so he searched the registry for : http://*.update.microsoft.com https://*.update.microsoft.com http://download.windowsupdate.com and did not find any of these entrys , but did find an entry under WUServer(mdsupdate2.security.com) we assume that this is from the security program . Sowe searched futher and found out about the UseWUServer entry codes(0 disable , 1 enable) will changeing the code from 1 to 0 fix our problem or do we need to find the Registry entry for Windows Update and make sure it is the correct entry to direct our computer to the correct Windows Update website ? Thank You MJ

Fixed it in registry. Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU] Change the key 'UseWUServer' from value '1' to '0', reboot and try Windows Update again.
