Windows Vista Server Service Won't Start
Whenever I try to turn onthe server service on my laptop running Vista Home Premium, it gives me the "Error 1068: Dependency Failed to Start" thing. I checked the dependencies, and they are Security Accounts Manager>RPC>DCOM Server Process Launcher and srv>srv2>srvnet. The SAM, RPC, and DCOM services are all running normally, and srv, srv2, and srvnet aren't on the services list. Can someone help me, because I need to start this service. I don't really know what to do.

Hi, and thanks for your suggestions so far and your quick response. I've tried almost all of those to no avail. The only one I haven't done is the Startup Repair, which I am hesitant about doing. Will this affect any of my files or data on my computer, or will everything be left alone? That is my only worry. Thanks, again.

Startup repair won't cause any problems with your computer at all, its perfectly safe to run and won't affect your files.MCP, MCDST, MCTS x 4, MCITP x 2 Please don't forget to mark this post as an answer if it is the solution to your problem! You might also like to try running a system file check from the command prompt. You can do this by typing in sfc /scannowThis will check that all your system files haven't been altered or corrupted, and repair them if they have. It will not cause any problems with your files or programs.MCP, MCDST, MCTS x 4, MCITP x 2 Please don't forget to mark this post as an answer if it is the solution to your problem! Thank you for the replies and sorry for my late response. I've tried the sfc, but it mentions I have corrupted files, but doesn't do anything. I have yet to do the Startup Repair, but I will do that soon. Thank you for your replies once again.

Would an upgrade install harm my files? Also, how do I do an upgrade install...? =)

no, an upgrade install won't harm your files. however, its always sensible to back up first. You start it by inserting the disk while in windows and following the prompts.MCP, MCDST, MCTS x 4, MCITP x 2 Please don't forget to mark this post as an answer if it is the solution to your problem! Thank you everyone for your replies to my plea for help! The problem was finally solved! I finally did the Startup Repair, but it said there were no problems and nothing had happened. I felt down, but upon rebooting my computer to prepare for an upgrade install, I noticed on my other computer that my laptop had shown up in the sharing list! I checked, and the server service was running! Thank you so much everyone. I really appreciate it. I've been working to solve this for months to no avail. Again, thank you! =D
