Windows Vista Offline Files & Redirected Folders
Windows vista seems to make redirected folders available offline automatically EVEN if you have the group policy setting set to not do so (the one that says DO NOT make redirected folders automatically available offline)...anyone have any ideas how to avoid this? So far the only way I can do this is to disable the offline files service completely but that has caused several issues.John Whites

Hi, Thank you for posting. Generally, to disable Redirected Folders automatically made available offline, we just need to enable the Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline policy in the User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files section of the in the Group Policy Object Editor. Since the redirected folders is still made available offline automatically, I suspect the policy has not been applied properly and lets check the following: 1. The order of processing Group Policy settings are, Local Group Policy object, Site, Domain and Organizational units. If there are some conflicts between local and other object , the local settings will be overwritten. Therefore, please check if there are some conflicts between the settings from the local and the sever side. 2. Please run the tool gpresult to check the Group Policy applying result. Open an elevated command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: gpresult /v >c:\ policy.txt After running, please open the c:\ policy.txt and check if the policy Redirected Folders automatically made available offline has been applied or not. If you want, we can help you check this, please just use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) to upload the .txt file and share its URL with us. Meanwhile, I will share the following documents with you: Folder Redirection Overview http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc778976.aspx Configuring Group Policy for Offline Files http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc759721.aspx Group Policy processing and precedence http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc785665.aspx Hope this helps. Hi Nicholas,The Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline policy doesn't show up in Server 2008. Am I missing something or do I have to do something different in 2008?Thanks,Kurt Webber
