I tried installing a windows update ( Windows Vista Service Pack 2) midway through the download, I got a blue screen error ( the BSOD) with stop code 0x000000e4.( This wasn't the first time I'd gotten the BSOD, so when I got it, I didn't think it was a big deal. Usually I just hold the power button down so that it will shut off and then I turn it back on later) So I held down the power button on the computer to shut it off. I then later turned my PC back on only to find out that I seemed to be having the KSOD. Black screen of death. Upon startup, all I could get to was a black screen with a mouse pointer that I could move around. I've tried everything to get past it but I don't know what to do! I've tried sticky keys, but all it does is ask me if I want to turn on sticky keys and there are no links or anything to click besides the 'yes' and 'no' buttons. I've tried safe mode, and safe mode with networking but I get the black screen on those too. I've tried pressing f8 then going to 'repair your computer'. Startup repair said it found no problems and nothing happens when I click system restore. I click it, and nothing pops up. Then I click it again and it says ' system restore is already running' but i'm pretty sure it's not. CTRL + alt + delete doesn't do anything either. I don't have any discs or anything to re install windows vista either. anyone else have this problem? how'd you fix it?

I had something similar to this happen. Try going into the bios set up and look for where you can set the output video and set it to the lcd screen only. It may be set to auto detect and it's not detecting anything. Also did your computer come with a hidden partion to put the computer back to factory specs?

Please collect dump file of BSOD, I will help you to analyze it: Collect Minidump Files ================= 1. Click "Start", input "SYSDM.CPL" (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press “Enter”. 2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab and click the "Settings" button under "Startup and Recovery". 3. Under "Write debugging information" section, make sure the "Small memory dump (128KB)" option is selected. 4. Make sure "%SystemRoot%\Minidump" is in the "Small dump directory" open box and click “OK”. If the Blue Screen appears again, please refer to the following steps to collect memory dump files: 1. Click “Start”, type “%SystemRoot%\Minidump" (without quotation marks) in “Search” bar and press “Enter”. 2. Go to your Desktop, right-click on it and create a new folder named "Dump". 3. Copy all the memory dump files (looks like [Mini092008-01.dmp]) in Minidump to this folder. 4. Right-click on the Dump folder, click "Send To", and click "Compressed (zipped) Folder". 5.
