Windows Vista Enterprise Client reboot automatically after applying patches at specific time (controlled by Group Policy)
Hi ALL, We are in the exercise of upgrading Windows Vista Enterprise in our campus. I'd createdWSUS group policy for both Windows XP Prof. and Vista Enterprise clients. However, the behavior of the group policies for Auto-Update are different. Windows XP Prof. clients will ask for reboot after the scheduled installation have completed when user is logging on. However, Windows Vista Enterprise clients will NOT ask for reboot. The PCs are simply rebootedautomatically after sucessfully installation of the new patches. Here are my group policies for Windows Update. Configure Automatic Updates Enabled, 4, Everyday, 10:00a.m. Specify intranet Microsoft update service location Configured Reschedule Automatic Updates scheduled installations Disabled No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates installations Enabled Delay Restart for scheduled installations Enabled Re-prompt for restart with scheduled installations Enabled Others Not Configured Any advise are welcome. TIA M C

Hi M Chan, based on my experience, the default setting for Windows Vista should be restarting the computer after 10 minutes. You can try the following group policy in Windows Vista to disable auto restarting: Computer Configuration Windows Components Windows Update - No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations Hope this helps!

Hi Sean Zhu, Sorry for the late response! As you can see in my posting that I had already configured the said group policy in the domain. Any others hint?M C

Hi ALL, Further investigation shown that the Reboot dialogue box (You can choose either Postpone or Restart) will be prompted if the Terminal Service of the Windows Vista Enterprise (SP1) Client was enabled. Those Windows Vista Enterprise Client that had not enabled Terminal Service will ignore the Windows SUS group policies and reboot after applying latest patches on scheduled. Any advise? TIA M C
