Hi yes just make sure that the user that your trying to add is set to Adminstrator in "members of" if you are using a ristricted account it will not work. i am having a similar problem i can't get my vista laptop on the domain. i keep getting this message: Computer name/domain changes the following error occurred attempting to join the domain "sootyspp": an attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS name in the target. before this message i do enter the Credential i know these are correct because i used them to connect the XP pc's. this error message comes up on both of the vista PC, Kind Regards TullaTechDude

Hi hkamran, Thank you for the post. I performed researches and found it is a known issue. Please manually create a computer account on the NT domain controller to resolve the issue: 1. Logon to the NT domain controller. 2. Open Administrative Tools -> Server Manager. 3. Click Computer menu -> Add to domain. 4. Select "Windows NT workstation or server" and then enter the computer name of the Windows Vista machine. Then click Add. 5. Apply the changes. 6. Now try to join the Vista computer into the domain. Hope it helps. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

After trying to resolve this for too long, I tried your suggestion and it worked flawlessly. I am embarassed that I didn't think of trying this on my own. Thank you!! Time to upgrade the server.

Server Manager is an NT tool (and apparently back again with Windows 2008!). For Windows 2000 you need to use Active Directory Users & Computers.

I know this post is old but:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940268/en-usOn the Vista PC'srun secpol.msc: Local Policies..Security Options and changed the LAN Manager Authentication Level to "Send LM and NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated, and also changed to Domain Member: Digitally Encrypt or sign secure channel date (always) to "disabled".Run the wizard to joint the domain. For me workedAndrei AndradeWCSP, MCP70-290
