Windows Vista 5384 and Linux
Has anyone gotten connected from any linux distribution to a Vistashared folder? I have tried Ubuntu, Fedora Core 5, Suse 10.1, and Knoppix 5x. I can start the connection(by typing in smb://192.168.1.10/sharename) but my use name and password is not accepted. Works fine under XP and Windows 2000 & 2003. I have noticed that the reverse is also true. I can't connect from Vista. Vista will see the drive only when you map the drive. But I can't log on with root and root's password.thanks

I cannot connect from my Xbox (1) to a SMB share either. Works fine in Windows XP. I have opened up my firewall, enabled file and printer sharing -- tried just about everything. I think SMB 1.0/2.0 authenticating must be enabled somehow, but I can't seem to find it. Has anyone been able to connect to a Windows Vista shared folder with something OTHER than Windows Vista?!

The problem still exists in RTM. By changing :"Network security: LAN Manager authentication level: NTLMv2 Only" to"Network security: LAN Manager authentication level: Send LM & NTLMv2 session security if negotiated" in the group policy, I can get from Vista to Linux, but I am still unable to get from Linus to Vista.

According to what I have read and heard in the past several weeks, Microsoft has created a new a standard called SMB2. The Samba folks are re-writing Samba so make the connection. I suspect that some time in later 2007 that connection will be made.
