Windows Vista, Network latency has gone way up
Yesterday I changed the network router on my Windows Vista (home premium edition) and this caused me to run some of the internet speed test sites. I'm seeing high network latency time on the available network speed test sites. The download speed is fine, but my network latency on my Windows Vista system has gone from 19 ms to about 500 ms. That's quite a large change (X25), so I'm a little worried about it. I don't believe that this is a router problem since I also have a Windows XP system connected to the router, and it still sees a network latency of about 19 ms. Just to make sure, I switched the Windows Vista system and the Windows XP system router ports, and the latency of each system did not change, so I don't believe that this is a router problem. So I think that the networking stack on the Window Vista system has been damaged in some way, and I am looking for help in repairing it. My first thought was system restore, but I cannot go far enough back to make this useful. The only system restore point that I currently have (for some reason) is yesterday, and it shows the same 500 ms network latency on the Windows Vista system. And I've just tried "netsh int ip reset c:/resetlog.txt" command and rebooted to try to reset the tcp/ip stack, this had no effect on the network latency problem. Is there any help for troubleshooting and/or repairing this problem out there? Thanks much. -Roger

Turns out that the problem was Google Chrome 3.0. Firefox 3.5.3 and IE8 have normal network latency, Chrome 3.0 show a latency of 25 times (or more) the latency of Firefox and IE8... Doh. Case closed. Thanks. -Roger
