Windows VISTA Administrator Log-in Problem
Somehow I lost my administrator functions on my PC. It keeps asking me for my administrator password - which I haven't a clue what it is, as I don't believe I ever set one up. Nor does the system provide a place for me to type in the password, even if I knew it! I've tried just to type every single password I can possibly think of to log-in (I just blindly type these passwords on my PC, hoping it will somehow magically pick up the passwords I'm typing!). It looks like I have 3 "dangerous" exploit downloaders (all JAVA related) that have been quarantined by Microsoft Security Essentials. It won't let me remove anything, install anything, turn on/off the User Data Control, go back to a restore point, etc. WHAT DO I DO??? Thank you! MerryT

Hi MerryT, You may try to boot into Safe Mode to check if the built-in administrator account is enabled there. Enable built-in admin account ============== 1. Click Start, click "All Programs", please find and open "Accessories" folder. 2. Please right-click on "Command Prompt" item and select "Run as administrator". 3. Please type the following command line in to the coming window. net user administrator /active:yes Note: There is a space between "Administrator" and "/active:yes". 4. Log off and log on the Administrator account. If the built-in administrator is disabled and no other administrator account can be logged in, then we have to reinstall Vista after backing up the important files with Command Prompt. Regarding the attacks, please refer to the following suggestions: 1. Please boot in safe mode, and then try to run the antivirus software to remove the virus again. 2. Actually, the officially recommended method is still to format and re-install the compromised computer from a known good build (i.e. operating system CD + all security patches while disconnected from the network).
