Windows Update wont work
When I attempt to use windows update, it starts but fails. It gives Error Code 800706BA and occasionally 800706BE Last week, MS Tech Support spent several hours fixing the problem. They resolved it by remoteing in and tweaking something to do with Digital Signatures. It worked great...for two days. The the same problem resumed. I emailed the Tech who fixed it and asked what he did so that it could be "fixed" again. He dutifully replied that my previous issue had been resolved and I would need to open a new service ticket to address this occurance. I truly appreciate the initial fix...sure wish it woulda stuck. Anyone have insight on how to get this actually resolved? Win7 Entp Sp1 All antivirun/antimalware has been uninstalled. THX

Tried to run this: System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista (KB947821) [February 2012] but it also wont install. Corrupt Digital Signature apparently stops everything (thats just my guess). And, yes...Its a valid version of the software. Nothing funky.

Hi, Please download the following version of System update Readiness Tool to install first. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=20858 If you encounter any problem, please update the log file %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log to Skydrive. According to your description, I assume that the servicing store may be corrupted. You may also consider performing an In-place upgrade to repair this kind of issue. Hmmm - please provide an MGADiag report ( I suspect that it will have a slew of File Mismatches) To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 ) Once saved, run the tool. Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report. To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response. Check whether microsoft.com or drweb.com work? It could be also a virus which locks access to many update- and antivirus sites. If so, download from kaspersky.ru free version to clean the system. Using different computer, sure. GL, Ilya

Does Microsoft.com work? are you asking me if I can see the website Microsoft.com? Yes, it works. As for DrWeb.com and Kaspersky.ru I am hesitant to install anything since I have UNinstalled my antivirus protection and am essentially running around the internet buck-arse naked at the moment. Not as liberating as it may sound. I had been running Microsoft Security Essentials AND Malwarebytes. I ran frequent full scans. Neither found any infections before I uninstalled them afdter reading that having two malware programs might cause conflicts.

Ohhhhh no you dont. So far you're the only one who's suggested anything that has DONE something. So you're back in the ring. :) Gimme some more ideas. could it be a "service" that has been turned off? If so...which one?

Just as a point of Info - MSE and MalwareBytes get along fine, as they are looking at different things. I run both happily here - although I don't use the Real-Time Protection mode of Malwarebytes. Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

Installed and ran both of the above. BOTH said they fixed issues with Windows Update. YAY Unfortunately the problem still exists. Interestingly, when I click on "View installed updates" I see that not ALL of the updates fail...just 90% of them. I guess Im only "Mostly dead" (Princess bride Reference) Example- Security Update to .NET framework installed successfully Windows Malicious Software removal tool installed successfully. However During the same update session - Security Update to Windows 7 Failed Update to windows 7 failed Cumulative Security update for IE9 failed

After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Choose "Save" when you are prompted to save the file. Type "rename.bat" as the file name and save it to the Desktop. 4. You may need to increase the space alocated for System Restore. Or turn off system restore temporarly but then if something goes wrong you don't have way to restore your system unless you have a backup of some sort.

Done it several times...as administrator. Just did it again. Always stops at 53% and gives the message: "Windows Resource protectiBut I am hopingon could not perform the requested operation" See why Im frustrated? grrr I know Im precariously close to jumping off the "reinstall" edge. Before I do that, I'll upgrade to Win8 just as a hail-mary to see if that slaps something awake and starts working miraculously. (delusional, I know) But I am hoping that somehow someone will know the magic trick to fixing the digital signature issue that fixed this problem last week. (See post #1)

Yeah, 14mb for a txt file shocked me too. My wife is "suggesting" I spend some quality time with my honey-do list. That'll be a pleasant distraction since it will provide a sense of accomplishment. My email: Texan@austin.rr.com

That went quicker than I thought - although I'm not too sure about the results. You have 93 points of failure in that log which would appear in the - which is just for today. The majority of the failures are for pending deletions. There are also a huge number of other failed entries for access to files in the WinSxS folder. To be honest, I don't think I'd even consider a repair install on this - it looks to me as if it may be doomed to fail. I would certainly not even consider any attempt a normal upgrade to Win8 - that is sure to make things worse - although you could take the opportunity to do a clean install of Win8 if you feel so inclined. Your best option as far as I can see is to reimage the system - after backing up data to external media. Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth
