Windows Update window does not show the updates available to be downloaded and installed

This is the image:

This has happened, eventually, many times and I'm not able to (un)select any update. If I log in any other account, I'm able to see them.

It happens, eventually, in my 2nd computer too, and it just happened, yesterday.

Hi,

Based on my understanding, when you log off ad re-log on the issue disappeared, have you checked your WindowsUpdate.log when this issue happens.

Please also create another local admin account and then logon to the computer to check the result, if the new account do not have this issue, then I assume this issue may also related with user profile. If possible, please clear the user profile then test again.

Yan Li

What about management or security software, or any software that cleans the system or modifies the registry?

The behavior you have described is not expected and I have been unable to find other accounts of this issue.

Some suggestions:

  • Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to verify the integrity of core system files.
  • Run ChkDsk /R to check your hard disk for errors.
  • Use MSConfig to disable all startup items and services, then test to see if the issue occurs without third party software running.
  • Perform a fresh installation of Windows in a test environment (like a new virtual machine) and link to your Microsoft Accounts to see if the issue is caused by integration with your Microsoft Accounts or something specific to these two computers.
  • Check OneDrive synced folders to ensure nothing unusual is being synced between your accounts.

>> when you log off ad re-log on the issue disappeared

That's true. But just switching to another user and logging back to the original user, does not make the issue disappear. It's difficult to say what to look for in the LOG, but I did not find anything special, and this makes me believe it's due to some weird interaction between programming elements.

>> create another local admin account and then logon to the computer to check the result

I already have 2 admin accounts (MS accounts), and it may happen with both. Currently, the Windows Update window has changed (*).

>> Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth , CHKDSK, etc...

I ran all these before , for other reasons. And after I ran them, the issue happened again 5/june/2015, in the first hour.

(*) Currently, I got the Download Windows 10 logo on my task bar, and this has changed the Windows Update window, which may result in the issue in question being automatically swept off. Only time will tell.
