Windows Update window does not show the updates available to be downloaded and installed

This is the image:

This has happened, eventually, many times and I'm not able to (un)select any update. If I log in any other account, I'm able to see them.

It happens, eventually, in my 2nd computer too, and it just happened, yesterday.

Can you provide some more detailed information?

  • You mentioned that this occurs on one user account, is this the same account on both computers?
  • Is the computer and/or account on a domain?
  • Do you use any third party management or security software?

You may want to try running the Windows Update Troubleshooter.

You may also want to delete the %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\ folder (with the Windows Update service disabled) to clear the update cache. More importantly, this will cause the folder to be recreated and I suspect if you are encountering issues with only a single user, that there are some form of permissions issues on this directory.

Hi,

I have 2 computers where I use 2 (different of course) email accounts in each one, converted to Microsoft account and made both admin. In brief, 1st computer has email accounts A and B, both converted to MS account and both made admin. 2nd computer, idem.

When the mentioned anomaly happens, it persists until I log off the session and back on. Curiously, if I don't log off the session but switch to another user/account, the Windows Update window works correctly, and I'm able to see the updates available.

The anomaly happens eventually (as already mentioned) and it doesn't matter neither which computer nor which MS account.

My computers are not in a domain.

Although I have used Windows Update Troubleshooter (for other reasons), I don't think the problem is "within its reach"; I guess it's related to some weird interaction between programmed objects.
