Windows Update code error 80070005
I am trying to run Windows Update since a few week with no success. I am not a computer savvy person, but I already tried the Windows troubleshooting on my computer, Fix it and I am running the program as adminstrator. I really don't know what else to do. Please help. Thanks.

Hi, Based on my knowledge, please try the following: 1. Please entry lusrmgr.msc in Start Menu Search bar. Expand Groups and please double check if your Administrator account exists in Users Group or Guests Group. If so, please remove it from the groups and see how it works. 2. Please boot into Clean Boot Mode and see how it works. 3. Reset AU permission ==================== 1) Click "Start", type "cmd" (without quotations), and then right click it and select Run as Administrator. 2) Copy the following command (right click in the opened command window), and then choose Paste. Press Enter and you will receive a "Success" message. Sc sdset wuauserv D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU) 3) Type "Exit" to close the command prompt. 4) Try Windows Update again. Now try Update to see if the issue has been resolved. 4. Reset system permission =================== 1) Please download the subinacl.msi file from the following link and save the installation patch onto the Desktop, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en#AffinityDownloads 2) Please go to the Desktop and double click the downloaded file. 3) Please select the C:\Windows\System32 folder as the Destination Folder during the installation. Later we will use this tool to reset the permission settings on the current machine. NOTE: If you are using Windows 7 (X64), please select the C:\Windows\Syswow64 folder as the Destination Folder during the installation. 4) Click the "Start" Button, in the "Start Search" bar, type: "notepad" (without quotes) and press Enter. 5) Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window: @echo off subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f @Echo ========================= @Echo Finished. @Echo ========================= @pause 6) After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Choose "Save" when you are prompted to save the file. Type "reset.bat" as the file name and choose "Desktop" from the left panel as the save location. 7) Refer to the Desktop and right click the reset.bat file, then choose "Run as administrator." 8) You will see a DOS-like window processing. NOTE: It may take several minutes, please be patient. When it is finished, you will be prompted with the message: "Finished, press any key to continue". After that, please test the issue again and see how it works. Hope this helps. Jeremy Wu TechNet Community Support

This error is often caused by incorrect permission. Open command prompt as administrator In command run the following, reboot and try again to update: secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose Regards Milos

Hi, Based on the current situation, you can upload your Windowsupdate.log to SkyDrive for us to check. Meanwhile, please try the following: 1. Use System File Checker tool to scan your system and see how it works. 2. Run this Microsoft FixIt and see how it works. 3. Run the System Update Readiness Tool and upload CheckSUR.log. Hope this helps. Jeremy Wu TechNet Community Support

Dear Friend, This problem occurs when some files in the update are missing, even though the update is downloaded and extracted successfully. Method 1 Open the services by typing services.msc on command prompt. Click stop the Automatic updates service. Rename the software Distribution directory located at C:\windows as software Distributionbak. To do this type the command cd %windir% on command prompt. Press enter. Type ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistributionbak and press enter. Type exit and enter again. Restart the Automatic updates services. And restart the PC. Method 2 Reset the Windows Updates Components by using the Microsoft Fix it 50202 from the following the Microsoft link Downlaod Link: http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/3/D/83DA9B2F-3246-4C1E-996B-1381F667247D/MicrosoftFixit50202.msi After downloading the Fix ,execute the file and restart the PC after finish it. That doesn't work either. Jeremy_Wu was saying: Based on the current situation, you can upload your Windowsupdate.log to SkyDrive for us to check. How can I do that please? I don't know much about computers. Please help and I'm sorry if I am so ignorant about these things. I bought this laptop a couple of months ago at BestBuy and still I am not able to run the updates. Thanks again for your help.
