Windows Update Hammering Two Of My PC's On Startup
I've noticed for the past several days both on an older Dell laptop with 512 MB RAM and a newer one with 1 GB RAM and a dual-core centrino (both running XP SP3) that when I boot up, the hard drive is totally maxed out, causing the system to be nearly unusable for anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes. I've noticed that the wuauclt.exe task gobbles up a HUGE amount of memory, and when that task finally goes away, so too does the commit charge number drop back to a normal level.Did something go wrong with a recent Windows Update which updated the updater client or something? How can we get this to stop? I've tried googling around and there seem to be a bunch of other people complaining about the same thing, and there are suggestions ranging from deleting some kind of update database store to shutting off automatic updates, neither of which sound too appealing to me.Thanks...2 people need an answerI do too
