Windows Update Checking for Updates forever
Hi!I cant install any updates.Windows update is just saying "Checking for Updates" forever, same with standalone updates downloaded from web.Trying to restart wuauserv just hangs, and the service just hangs at state "Stopping". Have to restart to get it to a started state again.Event log says nothing and sfc /scannow says nothing. This is btw an upgrade from Vista Ultimate to 7 Ultimate.Hope someone can give me a clue where to start looking :)--Espen

All I could suggest at this point is to sniff any HTTP traffic being sent (if traffic is being sent) and see what results. For that, download Fiddler from here:http://www.fiddlertool.com/fiddler/and then run it followed by Windows Update.

No, it doesnt look like Wupdate tries to connect to any of the update servers at all.Tried setting the update service to start manually, and then start it a while after windows had booted also, but with the same results.

Try these commands:Wevtutil sl Microsoft-Windows-Bits-Client/Analytic /e:true sc qc bits net start bits sc queryex bitsThen post these files online somewhere:%SystemRoot%\System32\Winevt\Logs\Microsoft-Windows-Bits-Client%4Analytic.evtx%SystemRoot%\System32\Winevt\Logs\Microsoft-Windows-Bits-Client%4Operational.evtx

I checked the files myself, and sadly they dont contain any valuable information :\Im almost on the brink of starting in safemodus and deleting every wu* file in system32 and replacing them from the wim image after a boot.

Got a place to upload those files and the one located at %windir%\windowsupdate.log?Also, did you reboot and try updating while the logs were enabled?

espenfjo: Did a clean install of Windows 7 Beta work to fix your issue? Or do you still have problems updating? -Nick

Yeah. Didnt do a clean install until the RC came out, but the problem seemed to solve itself in some later beta builds, dont remember if it was 7048 or 7057. But all is well now.
