I'm sorry to inform that I tried all the methods in the article and none of them resolved my problem. What's more now I don'g even have an antivirus because I had AVG free installed but was unable to disable it which was one of the methods. As I could not disable it I ended up uninstalling it in vain because my update still fails.

It's a Windows Update Agent error. This error code is logged by the WUA when it gets No Response back from the intended destination URL. Generally this is a reflection of some failure in network infrastructure configuration -- such as a missing or misconfigured DNS Server setting, bad routing tables, a proxy server ignoring a defective URL or IP Address or not returning the proper HTTP 4xx codes.Lawrence Garvin, M.S., MCITP(x2), MCTS(x5), MCP(x7), MCBMSP Principal/CTO, Onsite Technology Solutions, Houston, Texas Microsoft MVP - Software Distribution (2005-2009)

This has happened to numerous client computers. One thing that can usually cause this error is your system time is not correct. To fix this go to date and time settings and synch with Internet Time and this might fix it.

You could also have contacted a virus or a rootkit that is blocking access to Windows update. Download and run http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.zip .
