Windows Seven and Norton Beta 360
This was a huge disappointment, but it is the risk you take when you run two betas at the same time. I installed Norton's 360 Beta on my Seven installation, and it was only like a few days trial. I didn't care for it, and still prefer the Security Suite. However, after the trial was about to expire, I un-installed the AV program, and it issued a request to finish the installation, it had to restart the computer. I then did that, and when it loaded back on, I lost EVERYTHING! I had a background setup, files placed on desktop, and applications installed. I can't really tell whether this is a previous restore of some kind, or if it randomly removed files after reboot; it just lost all settings, all customizations, and all program settings. It was as if I had just installed Seven, and all of my programs, but hadn't yet configured the programs. I had zero browsing histories, and no taskbar icons like before. Please issue an immediate warning to all users, to not un-install Norton 360 without first backing up all files, and for those who haven't yet installed 360, just don't do it. There's nothing to see there, and most of the features are already implemented in a great way, in Windows Seven. The exception might be the daily updates for definitions, that don't seem to come out but every 3rd day or so with Windows Defender. Can anyone else reproduce this problem?MSFT / MODSPlease test this, and let me know if you were able to reproduce it. I am not sure as it is the first program I have un-installed, whether it is on Norton's side, or the OS'es side that causes the huge crash/data-loss situation. Also, please give users more options for Windows Restore and Backup. I want to be able to control the amount of system restores that are available, and have at least a monthly pinned restore available, instead of the rolling period that it seems to use now. It seems that you only have within the past few days, and that is strange. I love this feature, but want space not to be the issue. With more and more laptops and desktops having at least 120GB HDD's, you should not limit the amount of space that can be used to such small amounts.

HiThis is the first time I have seen this problemreported here. I cannot help with trying to recreatethis behavior. You might want to check on the Symantec forums for anyone else who may be experiencing this behavior.STN Peer-to-Peer Discussion ForumsReferring to your comments on System Restore, you caneasily change the maximum disk space and get all of the current configuration settings by using the vss admin command from an elevated command prompt.Just type vss admin /? to see thecommands and syntax.Hope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Beta Ronnie Vernon MVP

I will try and contact them directly to see if they have heard any such reports. Also, I will try and re-produce the issue, since I have a restore that is a few days before I un-installed and had this major issue.Another thing, I didn't quite understand the commands mentioned above. Maybe I am missing an important step, but it doesn't seem to work very well, or I am looking at XML files in Explorer.Windows Key ~ R"vss admin /?" (Without quotes)This just opens a window of two folders. When tried in CMD it also doesn't work. Thanks,Andrew,

Hi AndrewTo use the vss admin command you need to be in a elevated command prompt.Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories.Locate the Command Prompt.Right click the Command Prompt and select the Run As Administrator option. In the command window, type: vssadmin /?Press Enter. You will see all of the commands that can be used.Examples: To see the existing shadow copies type the following command then press Enter: vssadmin list shadows The following command lists the current size of all shadow copy associations: vssadmin list shadowstorage Thevssadmin resize shadowstoragecommand can be used to resize the maximum amount of storage. For example: The following command will set the shadow copy storage for the volume on the C: drive to 10GB. You can change the maximum amount to whatever size you wish. vssadmin resize shadowstorage /For=C: /On=C: /MaxSize=10GB Let me know if you need more help.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Beta Ronnie Vernon MVP

I am going to do this again, and see if it is that easily reproducible. I'm hoping it was just a one-time thing, but I am really tired of Norton's 360 as it is redundant next to Windows Seven. Also, I appreciate your additional assistance regarding the CMD prompt; it worked now, and I will try it again, after I do a fresh installation. That way, I can really test it out fairly, and get more accustomed to using that feature/script change.BTW, was there a reason that it is only access via a script, and not under a control panel setting? Thanks again.Andrew,
