Windows Security Centre Service Can't Be Started
I have managed to repair the PC with the "Fix It" to the point where it now has & will download updates! However an issue still remains that I hope you have another "Fix It" for! If I go to the Action Centre. (Control Panel - System Security - Action Centre ) Windows Security is giving me a Red Flag! If I click on the "Turn on now" I get a "Windows Security Centre Service Can't Be Started" Any Thoughts!!

Hi, First, let's disable all Security Software and Firewall to check the result. If the issue persists, let's start the service manually. Check Security Center service ---------------------------------------- 1. Click Start, type Services.msc in Start Search bar, and then press Enter. 2. In the right pane, double-click Security Center. 3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, click Apply, click Start, and then click OK. 4. Restart the computer. If any error message is received, please let me know what exactly it is. In addition, please also refer to the following post to scan the malware. http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistasecurity/thread/ba80504b-61f1-4d71-960f-b561798b7b42 Hope it helps. Thanks for the reply. I installed Uniblue Malware and it picked out several malware issues. I typed in Services.msc in the Start Search bar & it took me to a pane with "services". When I clicked on the Services Icon it took me to another Services page. I scrolled down & I can find "Security Accounts Manager" but no "Security Centre"???????? Advice???? Regards Fuzzybear

Hi Fuzzybear, Would you please let me know what edition of Windows 7 is running? The issue can be caused by malware destruction. Please open the CMD with Administrator privileges, copy and paste the following commands. sc create wscsvc type= share start= delayed-auto error= normal binPath= "C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe -k LocalServiceNetworkRestricted" depend= RpcSs/WinMgmt obj= "NT AUTHORITY\LocalService" DisplayName= "Security Center" Note: You can copy these command, right click the CMD window and choose paste. After that, please go to services Windows to check if Security Center starts properly. Thanks for the effort Niki. The OS is Win 7 home premium. I tried the CMD & paste but unfortunately it was a no go. There was a whole lot of jargon about unrecognised commands & open SCmanager Failed 5: Rgds Fuzzy

Hi, Would you please let me know if you opened the CMD with Administrator Privileges? If not, you don't have the permission to run the command. Please click Start button -> type CMD -> right click CMD in the list -> choose Run as Administrator. After that, please copy and paste the command again to test the issue. If the error persists, please go to http://cid-9fb18a384ebfc662.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Documents/wscsvc.zip to download the registry (Note: it is a 32-bit OS). Before importing it, please refer to the following article to backup to the registry. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\wscsvc] Regards, NikiPlease remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Gday Niki! You hit it on the head! HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\wscsvc The "wscsvc" was missing out of that registry so the download has installed that & all is well. THANKYOU!!!! Regds Scott

Thank you so much for this solution @Niki Han. I've been reading/researching to solve this problem for the past 4 hours. Carefully read tens of websites. (am a unix sys admin but don't know much about Windows) Your solution fixed it. I wrote a whole blog about it: http://xahlee.org/mswin/Microsoft_Windows_update_fail_KB2691905.html do you mind if i mirror your registry file? Also, if you have a blog/site/homepage i'd be more than happy to link to. also, am wondering if you wouldn't mind explain a bit about what's the registry key that causes the Windows Security Centre Service not showing up in the Services panel. Thanks a lot! Xah Lee ( xah@xahlee.org )
