Windows Modules Installer Service

Dear,

We are using Windows 8.1x64 for most of our office PC. Recently, I am experiencing slowness in most of our office PC for occupying around 100% memory in a particular time everyday. The software center window pop up everyday at a certain time and the PC get stuck.

I find out on that time "Windows Modules Installer Service" occupies around 600/700MB memory and thus the machine get stuck. I stopped the above service and find everything is running well even on that time.

For your information, maximum of our machines has below specifications:

Processor: Core i3 CPU @ 3.30 GHz, RAM: 2.00 GB, HDD: 500 GB

Need you advise to get over this this situation as stopping the services could not be a wiser solution.

Awaiting for your response.

Hi Shaheen Hawladar,

"Recently, I am experiencing slowness in most of our office PC for occupying around 100% memory in a particular time everyday"
Have you installed any third party software recently ?

Windows Modules Installer Enables installation, modification, and removal of Windows updates and optional components. If this service is disabled, you may not be able to install or uninstall Windows updates.

Please check the update history whether there are any updates installed unsuccessfully.
We can run the built-in troubleshoot to have a diagnostic :
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\All Categories\Windows Update

We also can clear out  the Software Distribution folder to force Windows Update to recheck what needs to be downloaded and installed.
Run 'services.msc' ,navigate to 'Windows Update', right click and choose 'Stop'.
Go to C:\Windows\ and rename the SoftwareDistribution folder to SoftwareDistributionOld.
Restart the "Windows Update"service.
Open up Windows Update and  "Check for Updates".We may need to turn off the antivirus software temporarily to ensure all the updates will not be blocked.

We also need to run "sfc /scannow "or "dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth" to check the health of the system components.
Considering this issue occurred recently, if it is possible ,we can perform a system restore the machine to a previous point .Please note we will lose some configurations after the restore point.

Best regards
