Windows Mobile Device Center and Bluetooth
Hi, I have the latest WMDC update and a WM 5.0 PDA. I can syncusing USB but when I tryBluetooththe Activesync service is not available. I'm wondering whether this functionalityis included in the update so far. Has anyone been able to sync Bluetooth? Thanks, John.

Active Sync will most likely not be working until RTM Andre Rivera

It's mid-November now. Synchronization seems to be working fine via USB. No bluetooth success and little scuttlebut about it. I fear I might have a problem because I'm using Vista 64 and Vista is not advertising any services. However, Vista is making outgoing connections for my HID bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Hi, There is the same story. I cannot sync via bluetooth and here is what I think about it. Before using bluetooth sync you should be able to specify what COM port to use with the bluetooth connection on your PC. There is a confirmation to that in the documentation. It says click on Mobile Device Settings then on Change Connection Settings then follow the instructions to set the COM port but there is no "Change Conneciton Settings" there is "Connection Settings" that doesn't allow you to do it. If somebody knows how to set this up without the user interface it would be very helpful. Thank you, Alex

Hi there, the final version of Windows Mobile Device Center works fine with bluetooth-sync. If you click the help-page in Windows Mobile Device Center you find instructions how to setup bluetooth-sync.GreetsTommy

Tommy, what about bluetooth sync w/ windows mobile 2003SE? Worked fine on XP, no longer working on Vista. (USB sync is working fine though.) Any ideas?

Hi,Windows Mobile Device Center only supports Windows Mobile 5+6. There is no support for Windows Mobile 2003/SE.What I will do for all things not working in Vista: Buy Vista Ultimate, download Virtual PC 2007 and install a virtual machine with Windows XP (and for sharing files/information mount a share in vista). I dont know if it is allowed to downgrade Vista, but with ultimate you are allowed to install a virtual machine without buying a second licence. I know, a complicated work around, but hey, it works ;-)GreetsTommy

Till now. I think that Windows Mobile Device Center is not fully compatible with all version of Windows Mobile 5. Many people reported that WMDC cannot be sync by bluetooth. Moreover, Virtual PC cannot work with USB.So your idea is not okay. Risk

Hi, i have read the Mobile Device Center Website over once again, so, WM2003 IS supported. What I have done to get it to sync (WM 5): Before, make a bluetooth-connection to your PC, so that you see your PDA in the Windows Explorer. In the control panel in Bluetooth Options, choose that the pc can be discovered by other bluetooth devices. Connect your Device once via usb and it hanlde out a partnership. Then get to your PDA, choose Active Sync from the program menu and there from menu connect via bluetooth. Make shure that the checkbox for the active sync service is checked. That should be it. Ive translated it from the german help in Windows Mobile Device Center. To Virtual PC: I have not checked if there is USB-support in Virtual PC 2007. But if not there are many other products that support USB in VMs (Parallels for example).

lets take a look on the problem: 1.-my ppc (qtek 2020, windows mobile 2003, windows bt stack)) connects with my pc (vista ultimate, widcomm 5 bt stack). that means no problem on both bt stacks2.-no connection on wmdc via bt, even configuring it to accept bluetooth connections, but no problem via usb cradle. that means no problem with vista firewall.so, lets think about: when i connect ppc bt, some services appears on pc bt: activesync, obex, voice gateway... But wmdc works over serial port. Resuming: wmdc needs SERIAL PORT. ppc offers ACTIVESYNC. More problems: activesync software allows to choice com port to connect bt to. wmdc not. SOLUTIONS:1.-as i ve read on the net: modify registry values , so we can tell wmdc which com port must be used to connect bt. this com port must be the same one assigned to activesync service when ppc is connected to pc bt stack. in my case: COM5. So, a bit of regedit, look for HKLM\software\microsoft\windows ce services\serial port, and change value, which is usually bluetooth, writting COM5 instead (or whatever com port you have assigned to your activesync service).then save, close regedit and reboot pc. reconnect ppc and let bt stack add new bt devices so we can reconfigure bt ppc services in order to:2.-this is my finding: once ppc found, go to select which services we want to use on bt, select activesync and click over configuration. in the new window, you can change the name of the service, that obviously is activesync and put a new name: Serial Port. click accept and finalize and voila!!!. open wmdc on pc, open activesync on ppc, click on connect using bluetooth and youll see how wonderfully wmdc connect with your ppc.

Well after having spent almost the evening, i could connect My Glofish X800 with WM6 to the Windows Mobile device center over Bluetooth. The following will apply also to WM5 and almost sure to WM2003SE. After having connect your device once over USB to the WMDC in BT device manager in your PC add an incoming port i.e. COM3, now go to the Mobile device, turn on BT,open BT manager and in the setting under Com port tab add the same # COM port, if you can't find under COM scrollto BTS, it doesn't matter where the port number is located. Now go to WMDC click your Device icon go to Connection Setting and instead of leaving the default Bluetooth for others device scroll to the number of Com port you choose before COM3. Try to connect from device et..voila. I really would like to know why u have to guess always everything with Microsoft and paying and never being paid for my long night spent to solve their problems. Comments are wellcome.

..I forgot for the further access you must start from BT manager on device --> acttyvesynch BT and click on your PCicon to synch. If ever will not work maybe WM6 reset in your device actyvesynch to USB instead leaving BLUETOOTH, just change it.

Hope this finds everyone well. I've not had any luck in sync via USB let alone with connecting via Bluetooth. I've a HP Compaq nw8240 laptop and an HP iPAQ hw6900 serices mobile phone/PDA. There are zero issues when I was running Windows XP. Either via USB or Bluetooth. I've been looking high and low for instructions on setting up WMDC 6.1 and Windows Mobile 5.0 with no luck. Seeing as how easy it was to set this up with Windows XP I'm surprised at how difficult it is with Windows Vista. To boot I'm ashamed to admit that I'm a techie and finally bit the bullet and installed Vista Ultimate on one of my laptops. After spending hours reading documentation (Vista Help files on this are rubbish and nothing relavant was found on MSDN) on how to resolve my Sync issues between my PDA and WMDC I'm getting close to wanting to format and re-install Windows XP butof course that's not going to be happening. I know that bluetooth device is working as I have a bluetooth mouse connect - that tookroughly aminute to setup. I have 2 issues. 1. No bluetooth services are being broadcasted. The laptop shows up on my other laptop and on my PDA but no services get broadcasted. 2. Syncing does not work with USB. My goal is to have it working strictly via Bluetooth. Any help in resolving these 2 issues would be great. I have the followinginstalled on Vista Ultimate: Default Vista Ultimate Office 2007 Enterprise DEAMON Tools Lite Symantec AntiVirus Corp 10.2 ActivIdentity (for use with ActivCards) QuickTime Rosetta Stone Items discovered by Windows Update (Patches, etc) I'm assuming there shouldn't be an issue with Bluetooth and the Ultimate version. I choice Ultimate to get all the extras but now am wondering if I should have installed the Enterprise version. Again, any help would be great. Thanks much. cheers, joe

Hey Nostromos Your advise worked even for Windows 7. I experienced the same problem using WMDC 6.1. It helped me three years and 1 sftw version later.
