Windows Messenger appears to be running in background without me wanting it to.
In the last couple of weeks, I have noticed that I get messages in Windows Messenger popping-up soon after switching on. I have installed Windows LIVE Messenger and thought I had seen the last of "old" messenger having not used it for 2 years or so.I don't run it automatically - I choose to open it when I wish to use it.I USED to have Windows Messenger (The one that comes with XP) until it was (I thought) superceded by Windows LIVE Messenger.Anyway, these damn messages pop-up - often from unsolicited "friends" but also from my usual contacts.I cannot see a process running, I cannot see the application anywhere and the only window relating to it is the actual message window itself - no Contacts List or main window etc.Can this be stopped so that ONLY my own instigated Windows Live Messenger is active and ONLY once I run it?Can I get rid-of "old " messenger all together without upsetting things? How does Windows XP tell the world I am online without me wanting it to?1 person needs an answerI do too
