Windows Media Player error after applying DRM
Hello Microsoft TechNet users,
A couple of days ago, I have ripped all my cd's to my computer in WMA-lossless format and I have checked the "Copy protect music"-checkbox. However, when I tried to playback the ripped albums I got an error saying: "Windows Media Player cannot play this
file." However, when I cleaned my music library and ripped some cd's for testing again without checking the checkbox, the music did play. Could somebody explain to me why this is happening, or even better: how I can fix this? I have already updated my audio
driver, also please note that I keep my system up to date at all times and that I have a clean system with only Microsoft software installed. This problem appears to occur to a lot of people using Windows Media Player 11, but seems rar to Windows
Media Player 12.
My configuration is:
Windows 7 Professional x64 EN with SP1 Windows Media Player 12
Thanks in advance.
With kind regards,
Laurenz

From what you've described it appears there's no issue with the drivers or anything, only in the DRM that Windows Media Player attaches to the files, as without the DRM the files playback fine. To fix it rip your CDs without the DRM option checked.
But if you need the DRM to be working then we'll have to diagnose why it's not playing back correctly with DRM enabled.

Hello Allister Wade,
You are actually saying what I just stated above, my question is why I cannot play it back and what to do about it.
With kind regards,
