Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service stopped working AFTER I upgraded my CPU. Vista 64 Premium
I have Vista 64 SP2. The service runs for about 5 seconds and then I get the message that it stopped. It's been working fine for years (sharing to my Xbox 360) I'm guessing it stopped a few weeks ago after I put in a slightly faster CPU. I've looked a some tech posted and tried running the program that looks for corrupted system files but the only files it couldn't fix had to do with the windows sidebar. I've deleted and reattached my media extender, I thought it was working because I saw (from my xbox) the pictures, videos, and music thumbnails counting up as they were added and I could see them. But if I pick one it freezes for several seconds then says the media sharing service was terminated (or something like that). I then go to my PC and see that it's stopped. I can restart it but it only lasts 5-10 seconds. I also say a post about deleteing files in C:\Program Data\Microsoft\DRM but I don't have any files in there. Just an empty server folder. Hi, Is there any error code received when trying to enable the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service? Please launch services.msc and make sure the following services are enabled: • Application Layer Gateway Service • Network Connections • Network Location Awareness (NLA) • Plug and Play • Remote Access Auto Connection Manager • Remote Access Connection Manager • Remote Procedure Call (RPC) • Telephony Meanwhile, please go and check if you can update your motherboard or BIOS, chipset driver. OK, NLA and Remote Access Auto Connection manager were not started. I started them. The only BIOS update I found was to help it recongnize firewire better with Windwos 7 so I didn't run it. The firmware updates (3) all seemed to be around the DVD drive or SCSI disk drive so I didn't update that either. The error still persists. The error on the xbox is when I pick a song or playlist to play if freezes for about 20 seconds and then says the connection to media center has been lost, and it restarts itself. On the PC it says Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service has stopped working (cancel, send info to microsoft?). IF I do the dump the 1st program listed is wmpntwrk.exe Let me add this. I can view my pictures on my PC from my Xbox 360 it's the music that locks it up. I typically play songlists and then pick slide show. Thanks, PeterOld Programmer
