I found the following article that may help you. I have not tested it yet, but I am having the same problem you are. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934542

I too am seeing the same problem. I tried the support article (listed above KB934542) but of course that didn't work.I don't really understand what application the logs are referring to by "."

Do any of you guys have a Sony Vaio by chance? Just curious...

I have a Vaio and am having the exact same problem. I'm getting sick and tired of trying to use my 360 as an extender only to have this message pop up. The best part is that noone has any idea what's going on.I tried the link above, doesn't work. I tried making a new profile to see what pops up and suprise, nothing. I love how the error just lists a "."

Yeah me too. Sony support is clueless (I have tried believe me). The only thing that I did find was if you uninstall the sony wireless lan utility and the sony services utility it will resolve that issue but your wireless connection (if that is what you're using) drops when you use media center to connect via your xbox 360. Take a look at this. http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/10/225075/ShowThread.aspx MANY MANY Sony Vaio owners on this thread...hmmmm

It's weird because I used to be able to just go to Videos on my xbox 360 blade and watch movies. But now, the movies aren't even recognized anymore. There has to be some way to disble the items without losing all functionality. I also noticed some welcome center software that comes up which I haven't figured out how to remove for all new users. Oh well, sony must want us to buy ps3's

Make sureUser Account Control is tuned off under Control Planel > User Accounts I read somewhere a ghost user is created for the extender and if User Account Control is on it is likely presneting a UI box to the virtual user. Worked for me but still getting disconnected from time to time.

I tried setting up my 360 with my Vaio laptop today and encountered the same problem. I disabled the UAC (User Account Control) which allowed the 360 to connect to Media Center, but now my WiFi keeps losing the connection. Are there any more solutions?

The only solution I have is to directly use the dashboard to access your videos and music. Don't even bother with Windows Media Center as there will only be problems. I have been doing this for the past month and it has been working nicely. I'm pretty sure all you have to do is go to the Media Blade and you can select Music, Pictures, or Video. Then, just select whatever videos, music, or pictures you have on your harddrive.

I have resolved the issue on my Sony Vaio today! The basic settings on the firewall don't appear to be enough. enable the following ports on your firewall, and all should flow smooth. Also, make sure that either the PC, or the 360 is hardwired into the modem/router, or you will have poor performance. enable the following ports on your router: 2869 upnp TCP1900 upnp UDP10284 windows media connect UDP10283 windows media connect UDP10282 windows media connect UDP10281 windows media connect UDP10280 windows media connect UDP10243 windows media connect TCP This should help!

This worked perfectly on a Vaio. This was the first post that shed any light on the matter. Thanks for the advice.

Hey guys...Vaio user here too...I read through the messages, but I still can't get mine to work. I disabled the Windows firewall and the Norton Internet firewall (to debug only), and then I went to my router and added the ports that steriotyp recommended, but still no cigar. Let me recap here: Windows Firewall - I added the Windows Media Center to the trusted cites, but it didn't work. I then disabled it completely to take it out of the equation, but the problem didn't go away. Norton Firewall - Same. I disabled it for debug, along with the Windows Firewall, but the problem still didn't go away. My ATT Uverse router -- I added an application with the ports listed above. I did this to both the Xbox and then to my laptop (you can only pick one, not both), and neither worked... My laptop is wireless, my Xbox is wired. Any pointers would be appreciated!
