Windows Mail
Is windows mail going to be the default mail client in 7?I cannot find it in the 7 beta release.Will it be added to the RC?Thanks

My guess is no, that it will not be added. In years past when Microsoft added useful little programs like that, other companies have lodged anti-trust suits against Microsoft, so I'm thinking that there will be a link to the download, but that it will not come with Windows 7

I believe you will have to download the Windows Live package to get these programs.The mail client is simple and nice.

Yep, download the Windows Live package, and in that is the Windows Live Mail prog.It is good because you can have all your email prog's on one page....i.e. OE, Hotmail, Gmail etc, so you can check all your mail from one page.I like it.....:)

Well, except for ONE thing. Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail is not the same. I am also looking for Windows Mail in Windows 7 and found out that is does not exist!!!! Big Mistake from Microsoft to come with a new system that is quicker than Vista but without a mail-program!!! What are they thinking??? Windows Mail was integrated in Vista, just like Outlook Express in the ealier versions of the Windows systems. I already have an e-mail account together with my adsl and that is the only e-mail I use... I don't want a windows live account... why would I need that. The only thing that is keeping me from upgrading my system is that one thing.... No integrated mail-program. I hope that Microsoft are going to integrate a mail-program in the final version of Windows 7

Jadzia - As I mentioned in the other thread, it's not going to be happening. For what it's worth, you don't HAVE to use Windows Live Mail with a Live account. But you do need to have one to get the freebies - namely Windows Live Mail. WLM supports other email protocols - like POP3 and IMAP. And for what it's worth, you already HAVE a Windows Live ID account that should work just fine for getting the apps in question. You managed to post here, after all. And you managed to download the RC, hopefully from a Microsoft site. That also required a Live ID. That should be more than enough to get you into the Live Essentials so you can download what you need.

Hi NotSo good,The chances of Microsoft re-installing Windows Mail in Windows 7 are virtually Zero. I think anyone hoping for the return of Windows Mail will wait a considerably long time. However, during the beta testing phase of Windows 7 a few hacks surfaced which allowed Windows Mail to run on Windows 7. Whether these actually still work on the released version I cannot say, I am perfectly happy with Windows Live Mail so I haven't tried any of the hack solutions.You might like to take a look at this link: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/06/05/download-windows-mail-from-vista-for-use-in-windows-7/to see if it meets your needs.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

I hope they are going to publish a email porogram TOMORROW as they have messed up my life - I have a huge amount of accounts/emails/folders all organised and I did not know they would actually ditch Windows Mail in favour of Windows Live Mail which is a absolute rubbish.I already installed Linux on another Laptop and getting on with it.I think this may be the last straw and move away.ARE YOU GOING TO PUT WINDOWS MAIL BACK OR NOT ? I CANNOT WAIT FOR 3 days let alone MONTHS.VERY VERY ANGRY WITH IT.I already wasted many hours just to upgrade to W7 and now I giot this nice 'unexpected' surprise - what a MESS! NSG - Uh... How many email clients does Microsoft HAVE to publish? They've already got two. Windows Live Mail and Outlook. Windows Mail/Outlook Express is, for all intents and purposes, no longer included in Windows. Don't like either of 'em? Well.. There are other alternatives -Thunderbird, Eudora and Pegasus to name three off the top of my head. This, btw, is not a surprise. It's been KNOWN since at least January that it wasn't happening. Nothing unexpected there unless you've been living in a cave somewhere and not paying any attention to pretty much everything that's been said about Windows 7 since then. Don't believe me - check the DATE on the first post on this thread. January 16th, 2009. As John Barnett said - the odds of Windows Mail/Outlook Express making a comeback in Windows 7 are... Well, let's just say the devil would need to invest in longjohns.There's no real need to get upset. Sheesh. Life's way too short.

We want windows mail. Not the time consuming and annoying windows live download site. We want it on our computer the first time we log on to it. We don't want to install it. Without the ugly choice of background colors that are the only choice with the new windows live mail. People prefer the professional look of the mail programthat came with vista not the childish new interface of windows live mail.Without the extra sludge that's offered with when running the web installer. That's what we are demanding.
