Windows Live mail issue - Previously sent emails won't open up on the desktop
Windows Live mail issue - Previously sent emails won't open up on the desktop or in folders as to re-open and -re-read. They can only be accessed from within the Windows live mail program. When I drag a previously sent email to the desktop to re-read, it turns into a Windows Live email icon and will only open the program (if already not opened) but it will not open up the email. However, if I drag out an in-boxi email to the desktop, it opens fine and retains the email letter icon. The only other differences besides the icons is if you right click to properties on each icon, the problem one shows: Type Of File: _EML File (._eml) where the one that opens properly from the desktop shows: Windows Live Mail Email Message (.eml) Therefore, although there is a change button there it only allows change of the program to open with and not the type of file which I cannot find how to change to: Windows Live Mail Email Message (.eml) from: _EML File (._eml) for the problematic "sent" emails that will not open on the desktop.

For the problem of when I drag an email out of the Windows 7 Live Mail interface, sometimes some of them do not retain correct type of email type but instead show this when you look at the email in properties via Right click the File/ in the Genercal tab ===> _EML File (._eml) should be ===> Windows Live Mail Email Message (.eml). to open and become draggable. *** Method to change it to the correct extension for opening from the desktop or from a folder, is this... 1) Have your un-openable email file on the desktop or folder where it will not open. Note: In the un-openable state the email file icon looks like the Windows7 Live Mail program icon and will only open Windows7 Live Mail if clicked on. But will not open up the email. 2) Open up Notepad. 3) Keeping Notepad open... Drag the un-openable email right on top of the white space of Notepad. 4) Notice the contents of the email has populated the Notepad document. 5) Now simply rename the file from Save As keeping the same name (or if you want to change it is fine) BUT MAKE SURE TO ADD THE EXTENSION .eml to the end of the name. 6) Close the Notepad making sure you know where you saved the file. 7. Reopen where you saved the Notepad file WHICH is now an email file that prevsiouly would not open WILL NOW open as a normal Windows Live Mail Email Message (.eml) file on the desktop or folder AND acts normal when dragged, etc. Note: Now the email file icon will retain its proper state and appear as an email envelope icon. * I discovered how to fix this by this article: Using this search: How to change an EML File (.eml) to Windows Live Mail Email Message (.eml) This and other articles came up ===> http://email.about.com/od/outlookexpressreading/qt/Edit_the_Subject_of_a_Received_Email_in_Win_Live_Mail_OE.htm

> When I drag a previously sent email to the desktop This process will create a new file with the subject of the message as filename and eml as the extension. However, if the subject ends with a period, WLMail helpfully converts one of them to an underscore to avoid the unhappy file name subject..eml. Unfortunately, it converts the wrong one, so you end up with subject._eml, which the shell cannot normally handle. Use assoc in a command window to set the filetype for _eml. To avoid the problem, don't send messages whose subject ends with a period. Noel
