Windows Live mail - Mail store location?
Hi All,I'm looking at potentially deploying Windows 7 to my home network but there are few concerns I have. One is a bug in the folder view/settings, which for all intents and purposes, given M$'s history of not fixing things, may result in me never upgrading. But what leads me here tonight is questions regarding WIndows (live) Mail.Will/is the mail store in Windows Live Mail located on my local machine? Are all of the rules, calendar entries and contacts stored on my local machine, or are they store on some remote system.Sorry if this is a dumb question. But this is a show stopper. I would never consider upgrading if all of my mail is stored outside my system. I can't control it. I can't back it up etc.thanksTanya

Hi,thanks for your reply. If I'm reading you correctly you are saying tha the configuration settings are stored locally (which contain email settings port settings account names etc)So, what about the mail store itself? Is it stored, in its entirety, on the local machine...y'know.. I wiped my Win7 RC in favour of playing with some linux distro's as an alternative to windows... I'll reload win7 in the morning and try it out..thanks

Those folders also contain email messeges in their corresponding folder structure unread, deleted, sent, etc. right there in the local user account but there is no singlestore for all user accounts.C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\MicrosoftDuck.

In WLMail, click: MenuBar > Tools > Options > Advanced > Maintenance > Store FolderYup, that's a good way to find it. Then give me a Vote As Helpful and Propose As Answer.

Thank you gentlemen for your assistance.Actually, My original question wasn't about restoring my configuration from Vista to 7, just about whether M$ was forcing us poor end users to store mail off our own systems, but your answers showed some forward thinking. If you hadn't provided the responses you did, then sooner or l8r I would have been back to ask the questions you answered (hehe. Follow that?).thanks again.
