Windows Live Messenger Troubleshoot
Hi I'm completely frustrated right now, andI need help. I just got a new studio 15 laptop, andI tried installing windows live messenger on it. Once I signed in, a link popped up asking me to connect to something else, and there were two options saying like trust or do not trust, so I clicked on do not trust. Then all of a sudden it signed my off of messenger and I haven't been able to log on since. When I try signing on it says I have a trouble shoot and the details are Erroe code: 80072efd. According to the 80072efd details, it said thatIeither had an internet connection problem, ablocked firewall, or a problem with my proxy settings. I don't have an internet connection problem, i allowed windows messenger on my firewall list, and I followed the proxy settings list too. I even uninstalled and reinstalled windows live messenger. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? HowcanI fix my trouble shoot?I would really appreciate it!

You need to re-register the messenger dll files. do this, windows key+r , that will bring up the run dialog, in the box type "regsvr32 softpub.dll Wintrust.dll Initpki.dll Rsaenh.dll Mssip32.dll Cryptdlg.dll", without the brackets, then hit enter

Hi:) thanks for replying, I did what you suggested, and at first it said that it was succesfull, then this popped up- "The module 'Wintrust.dll' was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005." Then, another little thingy popped up and said- "The module 'Initpki.dll' failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependant .DLL files. The specified module could not be found." It's really confusing.

Then you'll have to run as administrator, do this, go to the start menu , start>all programs>accessories in the list there you'll see "command prompt", right click it and choose "run as administrator" in the command window type regsvr32 softpub.dll then hit enter, then wintrust.dll then hit enter, do this untill you've gone through all the ones that I listed above hitting enter after each one

after the first time i clicked enter, it said that I succeeded. When I tried typing in the second one u said, and clicked enter, this came out- "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Association control panel."

Sorry, I didnt make that real clear, I meant you have to use regsvr32with each file individually ( regsvr32 softpub.dll then hitenter, regsvr32 wintrust.dll then enter, regsvr32 Initpki.dll then enter, until you've gotten all of them registered) but with the previous error message you have to do it with elevated privileges. Thats why you need to right click and choose "Run as Administrator"

I entered regsvr32 softpub.dll then hitenter, regsvr32 wintrust.dll, and then when i tried"regsvr32 Initpki.dll", an erroe message came out saying "The module Initpki.dll failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to chek for problems with the binary or dependant .DLL files. The specified module could not be found." Also, which other ones did i have to register besides those three?

The list didn't come out. The same thing happened as the first time i tried it, it said it succeeded then this popped out: "The module 'Wintrust.dll' was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005." Then, "The module 'Initpki.dll' failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependant .DLL files.
