Windows Live Mail
While reading this, please keep in mind my alias (Clueless at Eighty) should give you a clue as to how much I know about computers and computer software, so please be patient. It takes at least 2 to 3 minutes from the instant I click on my WLM icon for me to be able to click on one of my emails. WLM comes up right away but I have to wait until the activity light goes out before I can use it...if I don't, than WLM will make me wait before it brings up my email. Is there anyway I can speed this up? My email server (provider?) is Earthlink and I use Windows 7. If you need more information than that, I'm afraid I have no idea what to tell you. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

most likely it is searching to see if you have any new emails out there to grab and if there any it then has to get them from the server....You can't really speed this up and is pretty normal, 2-3 minutes is a little on the high side but the program has to load, then find emails on the server, and download them to your computer. The things that could speed it up would be upgrading your computer, or the internet connection you use. Ohter than that the behavior is pretty normal.

Mostly out of curiosity: What sort of Internet service are you using with Earthlink? Dialup, DSL, cable?

Hi, When the Windows Live Mail is launched, it will initialize and self test automatically and connect to the Mail Server to download your new mails. It depends on your network and computer performance. It is normal behavior. Ivan-Liu TechNet Community Support
