Windows Live 2011 And Windows 7 Firewall now incompatible?
When I updated Windows Live to Live 2011 (as I was forced to), both Live Messenger and Live Mail stopped working. When I look in my pfirewall.log file, there I find "DROP" for packets that would normally go to the respective servers. Who or what changed in Windows Live 2011 to make it cease working with Windows 7 Firewall? For reference, the program path that I allow for outbound MSN connections is: %ProgramFiles% (x86)\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe And for Windows Live Mail: %ProgramFiles% (x86)\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe As you might imagine, I've rather heavily customised my firewall rules to ensure that what needs to talk to the Internet can and what doesn't need to talk to the Internet cannot. This was working fine before Live 2011, now it does not. Or more to the point, everything else continues to work except for the Windows Live tools. Is this a sign that connectivity from the Live suite is now in DLLs that need to be allowed instead of .exe's (if so, which DLL's?) or something else?

I can't explain you the change. I can only give you a workaround: Uninstall 2011, go back to 2009 and hide the 2011 from Windows Update. I still use the 2009 version of Live Essentials and everything works. André"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? This is partially useful. Using some links I found elsewhere on the Internet, I was able to download the .msi files for Mail and Messenger 2009. BUT! Starting up Messenger 2009 brings up a message saying "A newer version is available. You must install the newer version in order to continue. Would you like to do this now? () Yes () No". Selecting "Yes" installs Messsenger & Mail 2011, which fail interoperability with the Windows 7 firewall. Keeping the 2009 package allows Mail to work but Messenger not to. If I answer "No", then it does not sign me in. I'd like to know why Messenger 2009 works for you and does not result in the "You must upgrade" message. So I suppose I am stuck with a 50% solution: Windows Live Mail 2009 installed and working and I'll have to use another tool for Messenger.

I can use the 2009 and I'm not forced to update."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? Check my HowTo: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=150221

Hi, I suggest that set the inbound setting to allow this apps. If the firewall dorp the packets again, paste the log to here. If your computer within the domain, please check the GP. I recommend you also ask this question in Windows Live Solution Center, you might find some communities who encounter the similar issue as yours.
