Windows Installer 3.1
I am trying to install SQL Server on Windows 7. Just curious to know whether it is required to install "Windows Installer 3.1" before installing SQL Server Installation on Windows 7? When checked in msdn documentation, "Windows Installer 3.1" doesnt mention about windows 7. I used to install for XP that's why I am asking this question. When trying to install that "Windows Installer 3.1", I am getting the following error "not enough storage is available to process this command" Most of the resolutions say to increase IRPStackSize. I incremented by 3 from 20 to 50(which is max value) and rebooting (after every incrementation) to verify the same. But no luck. Any ideas pls?

Any ideas pls? %SystemRoot%\System32\msiexec.exe 's version is 5.0.7600.16385. This means that Windows 7 aleady contains Windows Installer 5.0

Hi, Arseny is correct. Windows Installer 5.0 is built-in Windows 7 alreadly. Windows Installer 3.1 is only for Windows XP. For more information about Windows Installer version, please refer to the following article: Released Versions of Windows Installer Thanks, Novak

Try using the compatibility mode to install the it. I suggest using XP XP3 first before trying others. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! IT/Developer, Windows/Linux/Mainframe
