A couple of days ago I ran a Shields Up scan of my computer and it failed the echo requestreturn part.I don't know if this was doing this from the start when I first install Windows 7 or after I hooked up my printer with home network printer and file sharing.Let me explain. When I hooked up my printer a wizard came on and asked if I wanted to share the printer with other computers. Since I am going to set up a home network with my old XP computerI said yes. But later I changed my mind since, this will be some time in the future, and turned off printer and file sharing. Thats when I ran the Shields Up test.After it failed, I opened Windows Firewall to see how I could stop it from return the requests. Boy was I in for a shock! I couldn"t make heads nor tails about what they were talking about. The only thing I found out was that all the printer and filing sharing entries were grayed out. I spent the last couple of days looking for another firewall that would work on aWindows 7 x64 version and having no luck, I came to the TechNet forums to see if I could find out how to configure windows firewall. Well it took a little time but I finally found a link to a TechNet article on how to turn on ICMP echo requests for ICMPv4 and v6. So I followed the steps but where it said to allow I hit block. I than ran another Shields Up test and again it failed.OK beforeI forget, I had reset the firewall to it default settings this morning and ran another test. It failed again.So I decided to post here to see if some one can tell me if or what I'm doing wrong and what I can do to stop the requests. Ordid I manage to corrupt the firewall or maybe if this might be a bug.Also it's not my DSL modem. I have that set to refuse ping requests.

You mentioned that you set up Windows to run on a home network. This leads me to this question:Do you have a router in between your modem and your PCs, or is that a modem/router (AKA 'internet gateway modem')?If the former, then it's the router that's returning the ping requests, not any PCs behind it. If the above isn't accurate, could you be a littel more elaborate with your description on your layout?
