Windows Firewall is Ignoring Rules
Hi all, I've got a clean install of Windows 7 x64 and can't figure out why Windows Firewall with Advanced Security is blocking packets and connections regardless of rules to the contrary. For example, a default rule , "Core Networking - Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP-In)" allows for DHCP Inbound. Regardless, Event Viewer shows that inbound DHCP packets from my router (192.168.0.1:67) to my workstation (192.168.0.11:68) are blocked each time I start my computer. And this is just one example. Here's where things go entirely to ____: For extra protection (to prevent worms from infecting our network), I've disabled outbound communications and despite countless rules to allow for common domain activities (e.g., 161, 139, 445, 389), those packets are routinely dropped, as verified by both the firewall's log and Event Viewer. All the while, simple, custom rules to allow IE to get out on port 80, for example, work just fine. Disable the rule and IE is denied access to the Internet, just like you'd expect. Why is this rule working while communications to port 389, for example, are all unceremoniously blocked?! Infuriating. Any ideas? I've been playing with this for two days now, unwilling to install apps on my new computer until the security is all worked out. And feedback is very much appreciated. Dave

Hi, I would like to confirm that do you have any third party antivirus or firewall installed? If so, I would like to suggest you disable them and restore Windows Firewall settings to default. After that, please reconfigure the rules to test the issue. Does it work normally?
