Windows Firewall and NAT
Fromwithin a virtual machine that hasitsnetwork adaptorset to the 'Shared Networking (NAT)' setting, I am trying to access the host OS file system. The host OS is using Windows 7 Firewall and its network setting is set to 'Public'. In 'Windows 7 Firewall with Advance Security' window, I navigated to: Inbound Rules>File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request - ICMPv4-In)In the properties panel for this rule, under 'Advanced' I changed the 'Edge Traversal' setting from, 'block edge traversal' to 'allow edge traversal'. After I did this, I am still not able to access the host OS file system.Any suggestions on how to do this?fyi, in the VM I am able to access the Internet.

Hi, Please check the following: 1. Please check if the both the host machine and the virtual machine can ping each other with both IP Address and computer name. 2. In Windows 7, please go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings and ensure that File and Printer sharing is turned on. If the virtual machine is also installed a Windows Based client, please also enable File and Printer sharing. 3. If you have already enabled some shares on the host OS, please access the shares from the virtual machine with \\<computername>\<share> or \\<IP Address>\<Share> and see if it works. You can also check if you can access the virtual machines shares from the virtual machine to the virtual machine. Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT
